New chairperson of the board of directors at RFN
Marius Holm is elected chairperson of the board of directors at Rainforest Foundation Norway. He brings with him extensive management experience from climate and environmental organisations.
“Throughout all my years in the climate and environmental movement, I have always had a good impression of Rainforest Foundation Norway. It’s an organization that has made major and important impacts. That’s why it’s exciting to be allowed to be part of this winning team, says Marius Holm.
Mr. Holm has extensive experience from the environmental movement as head of the Norwegian climate organisation Zero and deputy head of the Norwegian environmental organisation Bellona. He is currently an executive director at Norwegian transport group Vy with responsibility for communications and public relations.
Mr. Holm hopes that his experiences from both business and organisations can be a strength in his new role.
“We must do everything we can to preserve nature and the climate. Rainforest Foundation Norway is in a good position to do so with its unique breadth - from grassroots activism in the rainforest to influencing the business community, as well as political influence at national and global level”, says Mr. Holm.
He believes that Norway must understand its global responsibility.
“Norwegian climate and environmental policy must be global in its ambitions. The goal is to solve the climate and environmental crises, so we must use the all the opportunities we have to make the greatest possible global impact”, says Mr. Holm.
Mr. Holm makes reference to when the Norwegian Prime Minister at the time, Jens Stoltenberg, launched the Norwegian rainforest initiative 15 years ago and said that "everyone knows the technology for NOT cutting down forests".
“Many of us probably thought then that rainforest conservation is also quite complicated, but we have shown that it works. Rainforest conservation should continue to be one of the pillars of Norwegian climate policy”, says Marius Holm.
Marius Holm takes over the chairpersonship of Rainforest Foundation Norway from Kari Bucher, who will remain on the board as deputy chairperson.
